CWA in the Spotlight at SOFA Chicago
SOFA, the world-renowned art fair dedicated to Sculpture, Objects, Functional Art & Design, celebrates its 21st year this November 6-9, at Chicago's Navy Pier. And CWA will be in the spotlight with its exhibition "Beyond Boundaries: Wood Art for the 21st Century".
SOFA is a gallery-presented, international art exposition distinguished from other top art events by its focus on three-dimensional artworks that cross the boundaries of fine art, decorative art, and design.
In addition to the presence of premier galleries and dealers, SOFA devotes a highly visible area of the fair to special exhibits, primarily sponsored by non-profits.
Since 2002, CWA has sponsored exhibitions at SOFA every two years.
This year's offering, "Beyond Boundaries: Wood Art for the 21st Century", will showcase 26 artists' works including turned and carved wood, sculpture, furniture, design objects, as well as works that blur those distinctions.
Curated by Emily Zilber, the Ronald C. and Anita L. Wornick Curator of Contemporary Decorative Arts, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the exhibit will focus on the increasingly interdisciplinary aesthetic landscape of the 21st century and the boundaries around how wood can be used as a medium for artistic expression, what it can look like, how it lives in space, how it is made, and how it relates to the works that came before.
Presented artists include: Michael Bauermeister, John Beaver, Derek Bencomo, Beston Barnett, Jerome Blanc, Michael Brolly, Andy DiPietro, Tom Eckert, David Ellsworth, Katie Hudnall, David Knopp, Bud Latven, Tally Locke, Alain Mailland, Malcolm Martin and Gaynor Dowling, Wendy Maruyama, Bart Niswonger, Pascal Oudet, Gord Peteran, Hilary Pfeifer, Binh Pho, Norm Sartorius, Michael Scarborough, Michaela Stone, and Kimberly Winkle.
