Salem Barker Wins Excellence in Wood Award at ACC Baltimore

Salem Barker ( from the Rockford, Illinois, area won the Collectors of Wood Art Excellence in Wood Award on Friday, February 24, at the American Craft Council Show in Baltimore. The award is worth $500 and free entry into next year's ACC Baltimore show.

For several years, Barker was known as "The Gear Guy" using gears as his motif to make pieces in both wood and bronze. Most of his work was displayed at shows in and around Chicago.

For the last few years he has been working with more exotic woods and displaying at national shows.

The Collectors of Wood Art gives three major excellence awards each year - ACC Baltimore, the Smithsonian Craft Show in Washington D.C. in April and the American Craft Exposition in Chicago in September.
