Two historic types of furniture have become the foundation for my work, the “Cabinet on Stand” and “Game Table”. They offer a format to express the dissimilarity that exists between the ridged architectural features of the furniture, when first encountered, and the engaging images of the interior that’s revealed when the top or doors are opened.
The shapes and symbols used to embellish the structure and facade of the furniture have been inspired by the architectural landscape found along roads, highways and in flight which provide rigid, stoic views.
With the top or doors open, images are revealed that are visually active, vibrant, and inviting. My intent is to first evoke a sense of wonderment and awe, and ultimately a contemplative impression.
