Artist Statement

What can I say? I love to turn wood. For years, my main focus has been on hollow vessels. It still is, but with a twist...

I was very much inspired by the work of other basket illusionists, notably David Nittmann and Lincoln Seitzman. I taught myself how to do it and for the most part, this is all I do now. I can still enjoy turning a hollow vessel, and then turn it into a basket illusion - the best of both worlds for me. Of course I also do basket illusions on platters and bowls.

I find much inspiration from Pueblo and other Southwestern potters as well as Moroccan pottery. I design most of my own patterns using these influences. Sometimes I just wing it. I love doing basket illusion and I also enjoy demonstrating and teaching the process to other turners.
