Bob Bruu

Artist Statement

Bob’s interests in the arts goes back to his childhood. Growing up in a family of artists, strongly influenced by his father and grandfather, he learned mostly by watching and drawing whenever he could. While Bob is a mostly self-taught artist, he’s been fortunate to work with a number of well trained wood carvers over the years and learned a lot by sharing a passion for carving.

Bob is a diverse artist, working with acrylics, watercolors, graphite, pen & ink and his favorite medium – wood. Bob is fascinated by the finer details in his subjects with a drive to depict hyperrealism in his work. Bob transforms every day objects by painstakingly carving them in wood into a piece of art. His collection of handcrafted wood sculptures are all created in his workshop in McKinney, TX, using a combination of hand and power carving tools. An average piece can take anywhere from 50 to 200+ hours to carve, using a number of different paints and stains to complete each piece. Creating realistic wood sculptures that fool the eye is his passion and goal.

Bob is active in the local McKinney, TX art community. He's also won numerous awards for his paintings and woodcarvings. Including, having artwork installed in the City of Colorado Springs as part of a Bike Share Program.
