In my work, I explore the possibilities of the hand-hewn bowl. I am continually amazed by the variations in form, texture, and movement that can be realized within this realm.
Beginning with green logs from local trees, I use only traditional edge tools such as adze, axe, gouge, and drawknife to sculpt forms with a certain grace and flow that retain their potential functionality. Rather than use abrasives, I prefer to leave the surfaces directly from the final slices of the tools. The surface quality achieved by sharp edge tools is unique and a pleasure to touch.
