Through haphazard encounters with discarded remnants, I realized and accepted that found wood has a history before it reaches my hand. As a result, in my most recent work, I finally allowed the wood to take the lead, telling its life-stories and creating a dialogue about time. Reflecting this opened-up attitude about my work, the picture plane is now extended. The natural grain and texture of the wood, and the human imprint on man-made artifacts of indigenous daily life, are evident. The work is evocative, sensual, wild - tamed with strong form and composition. The interplay allows the ancient and the modern to speak as one.
