Spring Box

Jim Kelso

2004    Size   H: 2.75 in  W: 6.6 in  D: 5.75 in

Sold - Aug 15, 2004

The inspiration for this piece came early this spring after a long winter. Spring time in Vermont comes as a dramatic, fertile event so contrasted to the aridity of winter. One of my favorite harbingers is the spring frog, found near ponds among last year’s old foliage. My aim was to create a work that conveys the earthy, fertile redolence of spring. I chose Vera wood for the box body for it’s earthy color, density and fragrance. I chose Ebony for the lid for it’s beautiful carving qualities and color harmony with the Vera.
