This is a work inspired by my recently attending the international Bridges Math/Art conference in Baltimore. I sat in on some hands on seminars that focused on the Platonic and Archimedean solids. After getting home and brewing on this a while, I realized that I could probably turn these forms on the lathe. In the course of making this I actually turned 2 of these solids. I started with a sphere and turned it on 20 centers to arrive at an Icosahedron, which has 20 equilateral triangles as faces. I then centered the Icosahedron on its vertices to truncate, or clip off the points. The result of this is the form that you see consisting of 12 pentagons and 20 hexagons. The starburst texture was added using pyrographic carving, then painted using the dry brush technique. The stand is centered on one of the hexagons and is a hexagonal pyramid. Maple, Acrylics on the form, dye on the stand, Fixatiff
