Inverted Dragons Blood
2015 Size H: 6.5 in W: 6 in D: 6 in
In an Exhibition - To be entered into the Bridges art conference in Baltimore
A piece inspired by the fractal patterns seen in the branching of the rare Dragons Blood tree. This tree only grows on the island of Socotra in the Arabian Sea. I chose to invert the tree to show the fractal pattern of its incredible branching limbs. Red Maple, Acrylics, Chestnut Dyes, Waterlox, India Ink
Looking down on the top
Detail showing the bottom of the box
A picture showing the piece re-verted on a base. Not an intended way to display the piece, but a more conventional view of the tree as seen in nature.
A picture showing that the piece is a box and displaying the blood red color I chose as a nod to the color of the sap for which the tree was named.
