Fractal Ferns

Michael Foster

2013    Size   H: 5 in  W: 13 in

Available for Purchase

Another math inspired piece based on fractals. Fractals are a branch of math that describes complex forms some of which are best described as self similar. That is, the edges of the form break down into smaller shapes that are similar to the larger shape. A real fractal would present such self similar form in infinitely smaller detail. If you look, you will see that the overall shape of each fern is reflected in each “leaf”, and again in each leaflet”. I would have loved to take it to finer detail, but found that my eyes, hands and tools weren’t up to the task.
