This bowl was made from a single flat board. After the bowl was turned, it was lightly sandblasted so the softer summer growth wood was eroded, but the harder winter growth wood was not. It was then painted with black paint. After the paint dried, the bowl was sanded so the harder winter growth was revealed, but the recessed softer summer growth was not. The black paint on the summer growth wood stands in bold contrast to the unpainted winter growth. The bowl was finished with 5 coats of semigloss lacquer
