This section of a root was found in a neighbor's yard shortly after a swimming pool was installed. It is assumed to be hard maple because the only large nearby tree is a sugar maple. Most of the root was left exactly as found except for a thorough cleaning. The "bowl" was carved in the globular, perhaps burl-like, protrusion with the interior following the contours of the exterior configuration. The carved area was extended into the top of the handle to better visually integrate bowl and handle.
