In the spirit of John Bartram’s desire to share his passion for plants and seeds, this piece entitled “Nut Case” showcases various palm nuts and seed pods from trees throughout the world. Each miniature vessel is turned and hollowed on a lathe, some with matching lids. The display box features half-lap and feather-spline joinery with natural edges and spalted patterns from Bartram Garden wood felled by a recent storm. The multi-compartment design is drawn from the original crates Bartram used to ship seeds and specimens to Britain during the mid-18th century. The work is featured in the "Bartram's Boxes Remix" Book published by Schiffer Books. Specimens include (by compartment, left to right, top to bottom): 1 – Kalamantan Palm Nut, Beetle Palm Nut 2 – Manila Palm Nut, Giant Raphia Palm Nut 3 – A.
