Another in our Night Watch series. Friend Heath suggested making a piece with the handle underneath the pot to use it as a stand. I really liked the idea and this is the result. The vessel is from delinquent Mulberry finished with polished lacquer and the base and finial from black walnut and satin lacquer. Named for a road located within Tianmen Mountain National Park, Zhangjiajie, in northwestern Hunan Province, China, this little guardian brings a bit of elegance to it's humble beginnings as a road construction lantern. At work day and night a small sun and moon adorn the topmost point of the wings.
