Wounded Warrior Dog No. 8, Flashback
2017 Size H: 40 in W: 40 in D: 18 in
Laminated and carved ambrosia maple, carved and painted basswood doves. This dog represents the veteran suffering from the invisible wounds of PTSD, symbolized by the conflict of light and dark "spirits" on his back. "Flashback" is the start of the second series of working military dogs in action. The Wounded Warrior Dogs Project intends to honor and raise support for their wounded human companions in battle.
James Mellick has just published a book titled "James Mellick, Carving Allegories of Redemption" about the wounded warrior dogs and other sculptures, with an essay by Karen Mulder, Ph.D and designed by Aaron Huffman, 70 pages, contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
