James Mellick

2016    Size   H: 36 in  W: 49 in  D: 18 in

Sculpture commissioned by a collector and donated to the Delaware County (Ohio) Sheriff's Department to honor all of the dogs and handlers who have served in the K9 Unit. The sculpture is a facsimile of Deputy Alex, a mostly black German Shepherd also donated earlier by my collector to the K9 Unit. The sculpture is assembled and carved in poplar and ebonized with aniline dye. The authentic sheriff badges are mounted on each side. Unique to Deputy Alex are four titanium capped canine teeth. Polished aluminum has been used in this sculpture.
