This was a fun piece to work on. Night skies offer much to ponder. Contemporary technology allow us to see deeper into space than every before. It all still holds great mystery. The imagery brings the idea of galaxies to mind with the small blue sphere maybe representing Earth. The dome is the box lid with the platform the bottom. (Who says a box needs to be, well, boxy). I entered this in the Northwest Woodworkers Gallery Annual Box Show. It has received an Honorable Mention Award in that show! http://www.nwwoodgallery.com/content/35th-annual-box-vessel-show It is made of maple. The lid is painted with acrylic and finished with water-based lacquer. The base is oiled, waxed and buffed.
