Inspired by the poetry of Robert Frost, the wide rim of this bowl is carved with his lines: "We dance round in a ring and suppose, But the Secret sits in the middle and knows." The heavily textured ring of the rim contrasts with the pristine smoothness of the inner hollow. Although it is round, this bowl was sculpted, not turned on a lathe. The major shaping was done with axe and adze while the wood was green. As the wood dried and warped, it enhanced the waviness of the dancing rim.
