Shell Fragment Series #10
2011 Size H: 13 in W: 9 in D: 2.75 in
In a private collection - Collection of Dr. Paulo Ribeiro
Recycled ambrosia maple, turned, cut, carved and pierced (not wormy wood). Base is recycled poplar, cut, carved, paint, brass rod. The inspiration for this representational piece is another hard shell clam fragment found while beachcombing at Matanzas Inlet, Florida, just below St. Augustine. The base once again gives a nod to the car fender forms of the late 1920's and early 1930's, but also emulates the ocean waves that deliver these wonderful shell fragments to the beach.
