Water oak root burl from urban salvage timber, carved. Base is recycled poplar, paint, brass rod. This piece began as an abstract interpretation of a heavily worn conch shell fragment that had been abraided in such a way that all that was left was a window through the shell, with some of the helix detail remaining, but the wood began to have a voice of its own, and that is where we wound up together. The voids in the wood are made by wood borers, which is why the tree had to be removed.
