This is the second piece in a series based on the fractured and worn sea shell fragments that I find while beachcombing. This particular piece is inspired by a fragment of hard shell clam that I found on the beach out front of where I was living in Ormond Beach, Fl, at the time. It was turned on the lathe as a large disc, then sectioned on the bandsaw, and the carving and piercing is very representational of the shell fragment. It is made from recycled maple (no, not wormy wood), and the base is recylced poplar with a brass rod.
