Step Well Series # 2 - Nahargarh Fort

The step well at Nahargarh Fort in Rajastan inspired my second box in the Indian step well series. It is less of a step well in the truest sense of the term, and more of a huge reservoir with terraced sides carved out of a ravine high on the hills overlooking Jaipur and dammed at one end. There is nothing else like it. The box holds to most of the features of the step well, including its one symmetrical element, a divided sluiceway at the far end that brings the water in, and a very odd long narrow ramp way that is perhaps a walkway down to the water. The outer wood is cocobolo, and the interior is mahogany. A drawer with two levels pulls out of the far end, and behind it are two secret drawers.
