I have long been fascinated with the collection of imaginary prison interiors that Giovanni-Battista Piranesi produced during what might have been a mid-career psychotic break. This piece is about the architectural chaos in many of the etchings with stairways and arches that seem to lead nowhere. The box has four compartments and is made of cherry and quilted maple.
