Ebony "Stele" Inverted Scent Bottle

Stephen Mark Paulsen

1981    Size   H: 11.5 in  W: 3.5 in  D: 1.5 in

In a museum - Yale University Art Museum

Donated by: Irving and Mari Lipton Collection

This large inverted scent bottle features a carved mask and two locking pins in the shape of hands of kingwood, a rare Mexican true rosewood also known as Camatillo. The machined and carved base is remarkably complex. The piece as a whole is among the most elaborately developed scent bottles I made.
