Cremation Of A Violin

Dan Driscoll

2013    Size   H: 6 in  W: 25 in  D: 10 in

This sculpture was carved from a single block of wood. There are no laminations. It is modeled after a full size violin, also referred to as 4/4. I use no paint, instead I apply a 2 part artist bleach to the "linen cloth" part, which leaves it pearl white. After the neck and scroll was carved, it was charred using a propane torch. A cathartic experience. The charred wood was then stabilized and finished.
