The Shrouded Violin.

Dan Driscoll

2013    Size   H: 6 in  W: 31 in  D: 10 in

This sculpture was carved from a single block of Basswood. There are no laminations. It is modeled after a full size violin, also referred to as 4/4. I use no paint on the "linen cloth" part. Instead, I apply a 2 part artist bleach which removes all of the natural color in the wood, leaving it a pearl white color. The neck and scroll of the piece were left natural after carving, the black fingerboard was ebonized. The thumb screws are also carved and ebonized. The strings are authentic.
