Strap Spoon

Norm Sartorius

1995    Size   H: 1.5 in  W: 4 in  D: 11 in

In a museum - Permanent Collection of the Arkansas Art Center

Donated by: Robyn and John Horn

In 1995 I was noticing steel straps used in ornamental iron work to bind elements of fences and gates. Applying that to a spoon I carved a single piece of Plum wood native to West Virginia to appear as if the handle gripped the bowl with the squeezing pressure of a strap across the bowl. The notches in the sides and end of the handle were filed and stained.
