Darrell Copeland

Biography

Darrell Copeland was born in 1954 in Mississippi and raised in Louisiana. He had an early interest in architecture, carpentry, and sculpting. His interest led him to residential and commercial design/build projects and more recently completed the design and construction of his own arts and craft dream home and studio in the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina where he lives and works today.
Though essentially self taught, Darrell credits his wood turning technical knowledge to classes at John C. Campbell and informal workshops by renowned master level turners where he gleaned all he could from their experience.
While living in New Orleans, he also apprenticed under an abstract stone sculptor who shared with him her passion for texture, line and form. As he progressed from stone to the intricate medium of wood turning, he took an already complex and detailed style into richly rendered art forms. His career further unfolded as he began specializing in more innovative and technical designing.
His work is found in collections throughout the U.S. and abroad.
