Jim Liedtke

Biography

My formal education was in engineering and medicine. I attended the University of Pittsburgh where I received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering (1960) and an M.D. degree (1964). Postgraduate education included an internship and residency at the Presbyterian University Hospital in Pittsburgh (1964-1966) and a Cardiology fellowship at Harvard Medical School (1968-1971). I entered academic medicine thereafter with appointments at Pennsylvania State University at Hershey, PA (1971-1983) and the University of Wisconsin at Madison WI (1983-1997). I was Section Head of Cardiology from 1983-1992.

My carving career began after retiring in 1997 and I was privileged to have received instructions from master carvers Scott Jensen, Israel Shortridge and Norman Tait in the early years. I began showing in galleries in the Pittsburgh area and Wisconsin in 2001 and entering curated exhibitions and juried shows in 2005 (see awards below).
