I was born in Cardiff, Wales and hold City and Guilds Certification in cabinet making and furniture design as well as Canadian Inter-provincial Certification in Joinery. I graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in Education but have been in the wood trade for nearly 30 years. For the last 20 years I have dedicated myself to lovespoon carving and my work is now found in collections throughout the world.
I have also authored the definitive text on lovespoon carving, "The Fine Art of Carving Lovespoons" and in 2012 presented "History of Lovespoons", a detailed explanation of European and Welsh lovespoon carving from its beginnings to the present day. Both books are available through Fox Chapel Publishing or through all booksellers.
Lovespoon carving is my passion and every lovespoon I create is carved by me alone. I constantly strive to expand the boundaries of design while creating unique and innovative carvings which respect and honour the tradition of the Welsh lovespoon. I believe the romantic, thoughtful, hand-crafted lovespoon still has an important role to play in our increasingly sterile and pre-fabricated society. My goal is to continue the tradition of the lovespoon while introducing it to as wide an audience as possible.
